HEMA-Free Gel Polish
Every GEL.IT.UP gel polish, base coat, top coat and builder gel is made without HEMA. Here is what that means, and why it matters to nail technicians and their clients.
What is HEMA?
HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is a small acrylate molecule that many brands add to gel polish to help it bond and cure. Because the molecule is so small, uncured HEMA can penetrate the skin easily. It is one of the most frequently reported causes of acrylate contact allergy linked to nail products.
Why choose HEMA-free gel polish?
- Less exposure to a common sensitiser. Taking HEMA out removes one of the ingredients most often linked to allergic reactions in nail technicians and clients.
- Better for the people doing nails every day. Technicians handle uncured gel for hours each week, so every step that reduces skin contact counts.
- No compromise on results. Our formulas still give intense colour, brilliant shine and long-lasting wear, and they remove cleanly with professional technique.
Good practice still matters
HEMA-free does not mean allergy-proof. Other acrylates can also cause reactions, so we recommend:
- Keep uncured gel off the skin and cuticles.
- Cure every layer fully: 60–90 seconds under a 48W UV/LED lamp.
- Wear nitrile gloves and clean up spills straight away.
Why curing takes a little longer
Our gels are both HEMA-free and TPO-free, and that changes how they cure. Allow 60–90 seconds per layer with a 48W UV/LED lamp for a complete cure.
